The Atons

The Eastern seaboard teemed with kid talent, from Tampa to the Beltway, on local enterprises Cap City, Gimp, and DB Sound’s New Direction imprint, to shoestring outfits Hamtown and CP Ltd. Near Baltimore, the inexperienced Harry DePondichello tried his hand with the Atons, producing a barbarian twist on a misunderstood non-anthem. The teen group’s savage funk reworking of “Tie A Yellow Ribbon ‘Round The Ole Oak Tree” is a candidate for the Annoying Music Show, sure, but that “Whaaat??” is irresistible.
