The Exceptional Three featured bass player (and former Future Tone) Julius Roberts, drummer Greg Brooks, and guitarist and bandleader Floyd Beck. The trio is best remembered as a backing unit for vocalist Ruby Carter, a native of Thorp, West Virginia, who moved to Cleveland at age 14. While a student at Glenville High School, Carter began performing at area clubs. By 1962, she was a featured performer. She'd later be billed as the Exceptional three featuring Ruby Carter, a foursome that released its lone 45 on Way Out in 1971.
