The true essence of a Boddie artist is captured perfectly by the Headlines, a go-nowhere trio of teenage doo-woppers with an inexperienced manager. Herman Wright had helped Thomas build enough of the Boddie studio to warrant giving his hair-brained scheme a go. After a serviceable audition was captured on tape, he convinced Thomas to sign the act under his self-generated Headlines banner. “He’s Looking for A Love” features Billy Clay on lead vocals, while the flipside “Baby” pushes Richard Stokes up front. Wright recalls lining the group up with a gig at the Merry Widow as the opening act for the early Way Out recording act the Hornets, but the three youths’ interest didn’t last.
