Cattouse, Nadia

  • Long Time Boy

Perhaps the most sonically out-of-place artist on our Cult Cargo: Belize City Boil Up collection is city-born Nadia Cattouse. Cattouse moved from her homeland to London in the late sixties where she became a minor television star on such programs as the BBC’s “Sing Along” and “Hootenanny,” and something of a folk scenester, a contemporary to Julie Felix and Fairport Convention. Melody Maker called her “one of the giants of the folk-song revival in Britain.” “Long Time Boy,” her only single on C.E.S., demonstrates the distinct influences from both French pop and from her peers in the London folk scene. Later, the British label Reality would release an LP including this song along with a smattering of covers in addition to several originals by her alter ego “Eva Dayne.”
