Notes About the Release
Emerging from Worthing, England, Martin Quittenton (writer of Maggie May), Steve Davy, Martin Pugh, Michael Rushton, and Kieran White (of Lonesome Heroes fame) formed Steamhammer in 1968, when blues-rock was finally coming of age. Their self-titled debut, often mistitled Reflection, features Kieran White’s heavy baritone giving an otherwise relatively generic British blues outfit a cutting edge. Across the record’s eleven tracks, Steamhammer straddles the blues-prog rock spectrum with dueling psychedelic guitars, panflute pirouettes, and wah wah up the wahzoo.
