A central figure in Seattle’s fading disco scene, KUBE radio jock and multi-instrumentalist Tony Benton teamed up with Eddie Roberts, Bernard Thomas, and Thaddeus Turner to form the avant-boogie group Teleclere. Affection/Defection emerged in 1983 as a sci-fi space odyssey unfolding on an intergalactic dance floor. Teleclere’s lone LP is a chopped and slapped slice of ‘80s electro-funk, complete with sensual serenades, pulses of Innervisions-worthy bass, and a plethora of vocoder magic.
