Lenny Roybal

Little Daisies

New Mexico’s Lenny Roybal was one among the many itinerant ’60s pop hopefuls queuing up to be heard in New York City’s Brill Building, Nashville’s Music Row, and on L.A.’s Sunset Strip. Akin to the bulk of Corby’s California-issued records, the would-be, countrified, teen pop vocalist appeared at Living Sound Recorders in 1968 and ultimately cut three singles. While international stardom wasn’t the card he pulled, Roybal tracked half a dozen wonderful, desolate, longing teen pop songs for Corby, including stirring covers of Willie Nelson’s “Funny How Time Slips Away” and Glen Campbell’s “By The Time I Get to Phoenix.”
