Robert Slap - Mystic Memories

In 1983, Valley of the Sun promoted a young Robert Slap to musical director of the burgeoning new age concern. Bright eyed, bushy tailed, and fresh out of the mailroom, Slap began layering various tones on his Roland Juno 60 synthesizer, adding in wind and heartbeat sound effects on the way to creating a musical rendition of a recurring dream he had as a child. Mystic Memories is a notable departure from Valley’s previous releases, with a heavy guitar presence and a more song oriented approach—a stark contrast to the sidelong odysseys that had defined the label’s early years.
