The title track to Peter Barclay’s pop second album, “What Kind Of A World” perfectly captures the unironic do-good sensibility of this unique artist. Homophobia, homelessness, racism — Barclay takes a stand on all of these and more. How something so square, even for 1992, when the album appeared, can be so undeniably fresh and addictive is kind of a mystery. But then, this is Barclay’s “What’s Going On”, and that song hasn’t aged a day either. The secret formula is sincerity + hooks, and Barclay has both in great abundance.
