Outsider talk-mo for the post-9/11 come down. Writing in the extreme margins of the San Diego hardcore scene, Adam Gnade turned a series of short stories into a contemplative discourse on the end of adolescence and America alike. Set to the swirls of Dan O'Hara's ambient guitar noodling and then issued on CD in 2005, Runhideretreatsurrender couldn't fight the digital tides and disappeared before Gnade's hobo-punk literary career took off a decade later.

The Jack Kerouac/Steve Allen-esque collab didn't reach the Numero offices until 2019, where its title track quietly infected 2533 S. Troy, becoming the inspiration for our Talking Songs For Walking playlist before our eventual digital reissue in 2024. Two years later Gnade's matter-of-factly "Fuck your deadlines, fuck your editors, fuck friends" mantra went wild on TikTok, which finally moved the brass upstairs to request a first time vinyl pressing.

Issued in an edition of 150 copies, Runhideretreatsurrender is the first title selected for inclusion in the Numero Literary Society. Handmade by society founder Ken Shipley, the artisanal LP is backed by a stiff square of gold leaf-smothered mat board in eight different colors. A booklet of Gnade's lyrics are included for easy follow-along. You are heading home.
